The Exiles took a strong squad of 30 plus to Esher for Sunday’s train & game session. As usual this fixture was an enjoyable sojourn from the Meads with warm up and training sessions then leading into a series of games. Given the numbers available Esher played an A team and we combined with the hosts to put out a mixed Chipstead-Esher team.
On the first pitch the Blues faced up to Esher A’ and delivered a competitive, although ultimately comfortable 0-30 win. The Golds vs. Chipstead-Esher game was well balanced affair with both sides working hard to break through for the scoring opportunity; which eventually came to Chipstead-Esher. Final score (5-0).
The final game saw Esher ‘A’ take to the pitch against the Golds. Another competitive game with Esher taking the initiative from the start and putting pressure on the Chipstead goal line. On more than one occasion an Esher try was only prevented by persistence, obstinacy and willpower; and some brave tackling. The Esher try when it came was from a charged down kick, 5 metres out, and an in goal melee. The Chipstead repost was equally fortuitous with a ball emerging “at speed” from a breakdown and being chased by a posse of players. First to reach the in goal area, and the ball, was a Chipstead player. So honours were even as was the score line. (Final score 5-5).
Well done to both teams and a big thanks to the coaches, players and parents of Esher.
