Forwards dominate as Chipstead U13 run in 6 tries in the surrey sunshine

The Chipstead Meads looked glorious today and played host to some hard exciting rugby from an U13 side that are finally starting to realise that they are really quite a good side! One year out of mini rugby and these young men are savouring all that team spirit and hard work brings.
Our visitors, Haslmere had an enviable played 4 won 4 record in Surrey 2 and were going to provide formidable opposition. The boys realised they had a job on and warmed up accordingly in a professional no nonsense manner; quite a surprise as we normally don’t switch on until the second half!
At this point I wish I was as organised as one of the Haslemere coaches who recorded a running commentary of the match on a dictaphone, however as you are aware I am not. I even put my scoresheet in the washing and the ink ran.
But this is the match as I saw it. We wanted to negate the threat of their 8, who was a big lad and very capable, so we moved Jas to 6 to join the back row of Callum and Max. The plan seemed to work with no early points conceded and the 8 who is a really nice lad was unfortunately forced off just before half time through a non contact injury. At the half time whistle we were 19 – 0 up with tries from George Walker, Capn Callum and Jas, two conversions added by golden boots. I don’t remember Haslemere in our half much of the first 25 minutes.
Half time brought only one change with JoeMaher on for Ben Chreighton who moved from 9 to 6 and Jas back in at centre.
The second half was littered with breaks in play due to injuries to a number of players and this seemed to disrupt our flow a little, however we did manage to put in another three tries from Capn Callum, Charlie Simmonds and James Booth. Golden boots converting another one. Haslmere replied with one of their own after subjecting us to quite a lot of pressure in our 22.

We played some really good hard rugby today and I think may have surprised our opposition a little. Outside of the try scorers, I thought that Freddie Edwards and Jamie March in the backs and Alex munch Crawley and Max Sandeman in the forwards shone.
It was an awesome versatile display and everybody played their part, whether in the preferred position or not.
Whatever league we are in next season, just continue to enjoy your rugby and the company of your team mates.
You did our little village club proud in the sunshine.
