Every player including a couple of newcomers displayed the Chipstead spirit fighting tooth and nail for every inch and every minute of the game. Our inexperience began to show although the game remained tight and with two tries disallowed one of which never should have been where our winger was some 10 metres clear...
Lots of clearing out and holding beyond the ruck and numerous high (swinging) tackles not punished and forward passes seemed to be ok for them (so much so it was bizarre to watch) and made a hard game, harder. This in contrast to the ref sending 5 of our players off at the start to have their nails clipped (none of the oppo?!?!? ) this was going to be a very uphill fight, but boy did they fight.
We ended up losing 6 tries to 4 - and for some of our boys it was their first game of rugby was the day before, so really well done and i am so proud to be associated with these young men who will only get better.
In my mind at worst we drew but all walked away winners.
