Match Summary
First Half
Weybridge kicked off in to the wind on a rainy morning with good soft ground underfoot. After going behind after 10 mins to a converted try the boys rallied round to lead 14-7 at half time. Great tries by Alfie Evans and Niam Patel with Alfie Evans using his size and power to score the first try and Niamh Patel diving over through the ruck.. Tommy Clark was very accurate with the wind behind him to convert both tries. The appearance of injured Mattie Garner in Cowboy Horse outfit was well received as he brought the tee on for each conversion. Niamh Patel, Mihal Saladziaz and Toby Waller led the tackle count with some great pressure.
Second Half
The second half started well for Chipstead with Kwesi Winney flying in to the corner to score a great team try. With the wind in our faces Tommy failing to convert this try. Weybridge then began to find their feet and hit back with 3 converted tries. This took Weybridge in to the lead at 28-26 with only a few minutes to go. The team rallied and the forwards continued to exert pressure in the scrum, and with the final move of the game the ball was recycled out of the scrum, along the line for Juai Charles to run in a diving final try. Joe Brown valiantly attempted to convert from the far touch line but was not able to due to high winds. Whistle blows and Chipstead under 13’s run out winners, 31-28.
A tight game, which ebbed and flowed, each team showing great commitment and resilience.
Man of the Match was Toby Waller for great tackling, great commitment in the scrum and all round effort.
