CHIPSTEAD finally get their league season up an running

After 9 league games and 9 losses it was time for the players to finally produce what we know they can and get the season up and running. Last season we were being chased this year we are the chaser and the chase has now begun.

Last minute personnel changes due to our top of the range 5G training pitch injuring key players whom I'm sure we all wish a speedy recovery or not, some would say he was milking it but that's not like these two particular players. One somehow managed to get his poorly leg out of bed and go shopping so he will look reem next week however the other is still being a little girl.

With such influential players out and our sugar daddy's money all tied up in next week's coach to sign some new players we opted for the Arsenal Way and brought up some groomed young boys thanks to Messiahs Howells and Ratcliffe for the tie handing outs ;). Calum Kingsley-smith and Tom Goater were sourced through our massive scouting process and the returning Tom Hawgood who had finally got over his broken nail which happened before Christmas.

With Coach Wrighty away in the Alps it was left to CoachC#$@ aka Bushy to go through the warm up. It was a bit of a farce to say the least due to the fact we were not provided with a changing room due to young boys who play wendyball needing all 11 changing rooms. After that fiasco we finally went about our warm up.

After a strong performance last week by Kieran Dupe off the bench he was given his start due to an injury to James Mann. Darren Lilley aka the claw was back in the mix and he happily played in the backs without a moan due it being at outside centre rather than the wing. That meant 3 Dupes starting in a competitive fixture for a while plus 14 out of the match day 18 had come through the junior ranks and of those 14 they were all 24 or under .

So to the match and Chips started brightly winning important metres however against the run of play law got a try and converted. This seemed go spur on this young side with Calum making his first senior start at 10 growing in confidence after great play Henry colyer got one back in the corner which Calum didn't convert. With chips on the up Club Captain Alex Cannon crashed over with a easy looking conversion alas it was not to be converted by our young whippersnapper. Kieran then had a 14 on 1 chance to score but decided to go alone an fell a cm short. It was to be his last meaningful impact as he was double hit an went off shortly after, still trying to remember if he has lasted a whole game this season. On came Alex Cooksley in his place. Scrums were solid and lineouts were working a dream with Henry stealing theirs at will and Ryan Dupe using the effective sniper when called upon. Mitch Lock got the next score again out wide so Calum had little chance with his little legs. LAW got back into the game with a penalty try which was rather dubious as Goater put his hand up to pray to the gods that he didn't get outpaced by a sheep alas it was in vain as the ref had made up his mind and there 10 duly converted to make it a 1 point game. LAW kept on going an pushing for another but Chips held out till the half time whistle.

Capri Suns and Jelly Babies were brought on and bubble wrap to keep our grandad fit to continue and the DOR & Bushy gave a rousing speech on how this was for the taking. LAW started the second half with a vengeance but the solid blue and gold wall was not to be broken for the rest of the game. A lovely pass by Jelly to elder statesmen Forrest who drew the defender and left yours truly a one on one with the full back who I of course went straight through to ground the ball. Calum of course missed the conversion.
Cannon picked up a knock and on came Boz who made sure the scrums kept on going forward.
A turn over lineout won by Colyer provided Calum the ball who received the call from Vallance to kick up field which was duly chased by those two plus the goat who smashed their fielding defender and the ball fell nicely for calum to fall over the line. There was not a dry eye on the pitch or in the stands as this young man who we have nurtured from a little seedling into a really good player but shocking place kicker took his man if the match performance. CHEY Dupe manage to last 72 minutes which isn't bad going since his youngest son only lasted 10.

Full whistle went and I couldn't be prouder of all these guys especially the youngsters in their first senior season but also to our 4 non youngsters , CHEY, Forrest,Darren and cannon who provide a base for which our younger player thrive off as we all know this team is talented.

Stewart Flack ably ate all our allowances of burger and chips after assisted by our supporters Luke Mason & Harry Elbrow so some of the players didn't get any. Then back to the club to celebrate plus join the 2s who just lost 13-7 to Bec Old Boys. BUSHY isn't his size without stopping off for a £3 meal deal apparently he is on a diet but then had Chinese for dinner (you are only cheating yourself).
Calum and Forrest had to do the man of the match pints although that was because Colyer wasn't there.
Then about an hour later everybody was asleep at the tables as Calum explained how great he was to everybody who would listen .

NEXT week this group has the chance to be the first set of players to reach the RFU Junior Vase London & South East Division semi finals in the club's history. A COACH HAS BEEN BOOKED PLEASE CONTACT ME OR FORREST FLOODGATE AS WE GO TO ESSEX TO PLAY May & Baker who sit unbeaten in 13 games at the top of ESSEX 1.

COACH IS £15 return and be warned butternut squashes have been ordered.
