Chipstead win game with bonus points but not enough for the title.

After last weeks disappointment of losing to ruts Chipstead wanted to finish the season with a bang. They had a good training session taken by Wrighty and a good warm up on Saturday by cannon. They had enough motivation to win the game as for the title, commitment to Andy Wright and James Long who's last game it was in the royal blue and gold before he heads back 'upnorth' to MELTON MOWBRAY RFC (pork pie land). Not to mention the VP lunch, 2s also going for the tile and the end of season drinks.

Chipstead were kept waiting for 5 minutes by Economicals to start the game who already had enough aggression to start strong. And so it proved with No8 Ryan Dupe Scoring within 2 minutes. Great break by Captain Cannon was followed up by Dupe and ran in from 30m. Pat Kisz actually got this conversion. Mitch lock was breaking tackles and rampaging all over the pitch and support lines were good. Forrest's age may appear to be catching up with him as he went off with a tight calf replaced by find of the season Boris. Tom Colyer scored a great try out wide. Conv missed by Kisz. Comics are no jokers and scored a try and converted to make the half time score 12-7 to chips.

Capri-suns and breakfast bars were used for energy as coach for the day Jay Howells gave words of encouragement. Message was clear do not panic and the 4 try bonus point would come. Manny was replaced by Cooksley.

Game kicked off and Captain Cannon was the next to crash over with good forward play. conv miss. Economicals scored next with great play by their 12 who was a thorn in our side all day, although chips pride themselves on defence he walked through the midfield. Conversion successful as the game was not over by any means. Chipstead stepped it up a gear with Tom Colyer showing a clean pair of heels and bras boots to score out wide. miss by Kisz. That was the bonus point sewed up now to close the game out and hope old ruts did us a favour and beat Law society.
Great hands by all members of the team was just spoilt by replacement winger Stewart Flack who had replaced Boodt. But hey Chipstead had many chances like this to put the game to bed with Mitch Lock the main culprit. A great run bulldozing everyone out the way to fall 1m short over his own feet many merry VPs were calling for try avoidance, which I have to agree with. Mann wanting to prove he is no 'wet lettuce' came back on to replace Barretta who tackled anything that moved.

Comics came crashing back with a try out wide this time unconverted. Good forward play by Helliwell and Mann created an opening for Bush to get the fifth and final try by sneaking over. Pat having decided he wasn't haven't the greatest of times kicking let Ed convert his own try. Little bit unfair on Pat as he isn't a 10 but stepped into the breach and has won us more games through his kicking or tactical brilliance of moves in the backs. We love the Flan.

Final whistle blew and it was a waiting game to see if we had been crowned champions. we hadn't which is a shame but it was our own downfall losing last week to old ruts. So promotion was already secure and now the celebrations could begin. Friends, family and press took pictures before we had a bbq and waited till the 2nd team came back. they lost but hey 2 promotions for 2 teams isn't bad for a village club out in the sticks.

Back of the match was without question was Tom Colyer however it was hotly contested for forward of the match with Boz doing excellently in the scrums when he came on but it went to Mitch for his barnstorming runs.

A trio ended up in the pond as is such tradition in sleepy Chipstead James Long for leaving us and the two team captains (Cannon & Staunton) for a fantastic season.

Drinking games and fun was had for all to newly promoted colts players in Billy Fowler to debut season first teamers in Boz and Manny to the season pros like Cannon and Helliwell to old timers like Forrest,Simmo & Macca to Vps. We defiantly have some angry people 'messiahs' Colyer and Macca.

The club was finally locked up at just before 1am with only to barrels left in the cellar and the stragglers getting into their cabs to go to bed or too many young players second home of Elements.
So Chipstead back in the top county league once more and the new season starts here with facilities to improve soon who knows where this little club can end up.
It might be the end of the road for some but plenty more just starting there path at #FORTRESSMEADS.
