Chipstead win with last minute kick from Captain to remain unbeaten.

Chipstead started the weekend as one of three teams unbeaten and ended it as the only team undefeated. With Bec Old Boys Rfc slipping up against newly promoted Old Tonbridgians, that left Chips and Ironsides as the two left to battle it out for the summit of Surrey 2.

Chips as usual started slowly and allowed a quick uncoverted try for Battersea but with a muddy pitch it was tit for tat and most play was around the centre of the park. A quick thinking penalty about 10m out from Ironsides tryline Captain Jeevo tried a crossfield kick which was knocked back by Loz and caught by Josh Peck. Conversion was just missed. In the penalty that was given away a Battersea player was sinbinned. A Jeevo penalty put Chips ahead of half time.

Both teams felt the game was for the taking and with Ironsides a player down the wind was slightly blowing in the home side favour. A lovely break by Frenchy aka Richard Trepant supported by his Vice Captain released the backs but Josh Peck had a bit of the white line fever and butchered an overlap with the tryline begging. A couple of injuries for Battersea started to weaken their scrum, the set pieces were fairly solid for Chips especially the scrums anyway. A penalty for their kicker was sucessful and the game was now getting very niggly, as the stakes increased but that is why we all play rugby for a bit of the rough stuff ;p Jeevo slotted another penalty to put Chips up with 5 to play but frequent penalties finally close enough for their kicker to kick another three from just right of the posts. Game On 11-11 all and 4 to play, in the past Chipstead would of crumbled or settled for the draw but not this team high of confidence. A lovely break by quiet 'Spartan''Hell Run' triathlon man Weldin down the blind side wing made about 20 metres and was only stopped when their winger and kicker who had played well all game tripped up the back row man. A yellow card was produced again for a Battersea player and the ref announce that this was the last play of the game.

About 25 metres out of the far right touchline Captain Jeevo took the pressure and responsibilty to kick the points an win Chips the game.

Thus elevating them to top spot 2 points clear of the chasing pack which now includes Battersea,Bec Old Boys and Streatham/Croydon. Of which is the next two opponents for Chips, first up Streatham @frantroad kickoff 3oclock and then @themeads 3rd November for Chipstead vs Bec Old Boys 2.30 kickoff.

A very good team performance and with many players back from injuries and 'Commitments' (in the rugby season) the squad will be strengthened. The youth coming through is also showing some fruit of its loins with at one stage in the second half for around twenty minutes the front row and back row were 21 or under. With 9 players in the 17 man squad for today from last years u21 surrey cup winning side.

Special mentions must go to Ed 'Kate' Bush who stepped up from Juniors and 2nd team rugby to play his 1st team debut and very well he did and Grant Davies for a very big impact from the bench again.

Well done lads unbeaten, long may it continue.
