The Dr Gareth Thomas story.

It's difficult to know where to start - it's taken 3 days to calm down and I think I will still struggle to write a balanced report.

In an un-precedented turn of events that even Nick Ansell, and the other members of the South-West regional arm of the L.S.R.F.U.R, find difficult to explain Chipstead found the man with the whistle, for their third straight away match, to be DR Gareth Thomas !

It would be churlish to say he was the only reason Chips failed to win, given that actually the two teams appeared to be fairly evenly matched and keen to enjoy a pitch that appeared to survive the worst of the recent weather, but the fact he could/would not let the two protagonists enjoy an even contest meant rugby was not necessarily the winner.

Whilst the discipline in the Chipstead ranks was probably up there with the best it had been all season the whistle happy 'wanderer' in the black struggled - Having regularly rewarded teams with forward dominance in the last two games, once again. any level of consistency was not apparent when this week it was Chipsteads' pack who were in the ascendancy but received little or no benefit.

OW's were regularly playing in their own half and on the back foot but were able to clear to good effect by the excellent boot of their fly half and were rewarded with a try when they managed to suck enough cover and find space to move the ball wide. There were some excellent passages of play by both sides - Chipstead offloading close and running support lines and OW's when the ball was moved a little wider.

OW's will point out the 19-13 score with 3 try's & 2 Conversions against Chipstead's 1 Converted Henry Colyer try & a couple of penalties to show their ultimate advantage but the game was in the balance all the way to the wire, although personally, I doubt if a certain person would of allowed any ultimate change in winner ..........
