Rugby is the Winner

Having made the journey to the single furthest place in Surrey the 'Chubby' Chiefs were ready for the challenge of the Sevens scene.

The pre-match game of Red-Arse and 'Carling' energy drinks showed that we were here for business and so it proved in the first match with a straight forward victory over the Red Lion team. The only issue in the match was Forrest tripping over his own feet in an attempt to score a try and managed to give himself a 'Shingina' !

More of the special energy drinks consumed and a quick turn around for another one-sided win against the Band of Brothers - who interestingly had no players over thirty and only one 'heavy' ! . Then it was time for Carbo-loading so we headed off to the bar-b-que and seeking further hydration a number of coins swapped hands at the bottle tombola !

Now armed with a new 'medicinal' bottle of Single Malt Whiskey and a bottle of Harvey's Cream Sherry we were ready for the 3rd match. The D.O.R was trying to play every minute of every match by volunteering to play for the Barbarians side as well so ended up playing for the opposition and the BarBaas were eventual winners in a close game. The fact they were given more than a few 'charitable' decissions by the referee including a try where the ball had apparently managed to pass through, late arrival, Kyle's not insubstantial frame to be grounded and a try chalked off for Ed for 'show-boating' !

The final pool game was to be against the Flintstone Ladies team so touch rugby was required - in a gesture of good will and the fact we were fellow 'ladies' we allowed a full 15-a-side match to give everyone a chance - The goodwill was extended further by then allowing them to win the match.

In a rather interesting twist the competition organisers decided that the final should be competed by two Cranleigh sides and the Band of Brothers were promoted straight to the final and they played and beat the winners of the other pool the Cranleigh 'Gentlemen'.

It was then time for Forrest to get his 17 stitches before the medicine wore off !

Rugby was the winner tho and a good time had by all thank you for all the 'Chubbies':
Roy Flack, Nick Mason, Brian Small, Big Paul, Chey Dupe, Steve Psaltis, Martyn Floodgate, Arron Phelps-Gardiner, Chris Hallam, Ed Bush, Kyle Smith, Danny Gibson, Joe Perceval, Jack Floodgate

I'm sure you will all have given Chief's skipper Ed bush food for thought for the remainder of the 7's season.
