Silverware for U12 at Chipstead sur mer

We would like to extend our thanks to the players, parents and coaches of Old Whitgiftians, London Irish, Effingham and Leatherhead and Beccahamians who made it up to the Meads for our final Chipstead Mini’s Festival (next season is Junior grade rugby and Leagues).

Chipstead fielded our two teams Blues and Golds and both teams equipped themselves well given the conditions. The weather ultimately ensured that the league format was truncated which was apt as this was a day more suited to swimming trunks.

For the Golds the objective was to build on the successful platform established at last week’s Warlingham Festival. Today though proved that against feisty opposition our defence needs to toughen up. It was difficult however to measure the performance of the Golds given the conditions. The Beccahamian Festival next week will provide a more realistic benchmark of progress.

The Blues delivered a solid team effort with both defence and discipline to the fore. However it was when on the front foot that the Blues surmounted the conditions to run in a series of well executed tries.

Mention needs to made of the final match against Effingham and Leatherhead – probably the best game of the day. The game itself ended in a draw – honours even - which reflected the quality in attack and defence displayed by both teams; all the more impressive given the unremitting rain and cold.

So Chipstead have another trophy for the cabinet to add to last week’s Warlingham Festival winner’s Cup. Well done everyone today; the last few weeks have shown that both teams have a solid platform on which to build for the rest of the season.
