An enjoyable outing to South Croydon for the "Exiles" with a clear remit to give all available players who had not featured in the League matches, or who had been nominated replacements at the League matches to get a full run out against Old Whitgiftians (aka Whit-Mits U13); currently sitting atop Surrey U13 League 4.
Playing four 15 minutes quarters, the remaining Exiles squad rotated in and out of the team with many playing in unfamiliar positions.
As you can see from the score, this was a game that was not shy of tries, and despite the margin of victory this was not a Whit-Mits U13 team that gave up the chase and Chipstead were made to work for many of their points; especially in the second quarter when something of a rejuvenated home team took the game to the visitors. Overall though this was a good day out for the Exiles. The occasion afforded players the chance to play some unfamiliar pairings and what was encouraging overall was the quality of the support play and use of space to create opportunities; and the vigorous defending, when required, to keep the home team’s score down.
Big thanks to Old Whits (Whit-Mits U13) for hosting the game. Next up for the Exiles is the start of the Cup competition this Saturday with an away game against Wimbledon U13.
