Cobham Win the League Title on the Meads

neil donnelly17 Mar 2016 - 13:52

Not our greatest day at the office.

Chipstead had not played Cobham in a fixture since Under 10's Surrey Festival so we were not sure what to expect - looking at the previous League results we knew that it would be a tough game.

Decent warm up and the boys seemed up for the game We started the better of the two teams and were winning lots of ball and pushing up the pitch - this was rewarded by Keiran breaking through and scoring under the posts. Lucas converted

7-0

Cobham fought back and despite strong defence they scored - conversion missed

7-5

Again more pressure from Chipstead and a penalty given on the edge of the 22 - Lucas stepped up to take the 3 points

10-7

Cobham started to get more into the fight and Chipstead showed some signs of fragility and letting the Cobham players into their heads.

3 More tries were conceeded before half time - mainly due to poor lineouts and panicing on the ball.

Half Time

10-20

Still all to play for in the second half

2 Minutes into the second half one of the Cobham lads got hurt in a tackle - we had to call an ambulance - and moved the game from the Junior pitch onto the First XV pitch. (Thankfully and most importantly Callum was ok - he was taken to hospital but released later that afternoon)

On moving onto the First XV pitch - we had the hill in our favor and the boys were reminded to use the hill - For whatever reason this advice fell on deaf ears - despite having to play up the hill Cobham were easily able to gain momentum and territory - and scored 4 more tries with 3 conversions.

Matt D managed to get a score back for Chipstead but it was far too late to make a difference.

Final score

Chipstead 15-46 Cobham

The second half was full of poor technique and poor choices on the pitch. (Playing time and time again up the hill with ball in hand and when kicking - going up the slope ) The really frustrating thing as coaches is that all of these boys can and normally do play so much better.

We have next Sunday to get it right - I have every confidence that they will.

Congratulations to Cobham on winning the league
We all hope that Callum recovers quickly and are thankful that the injury was not too serious.

Thanks to Nick B for reffing

a massive thanks to Emma and her team for yet again providing the food for all the lads after the game
