A week after the non performance against Old Reigatians and all the coaches were interested to see if the previous display was a blip or a sign of more serious issues .
A few reminders to the lads pre match that they were the ones who had to perform on the pitch - and that they had performed at a high level time and time again and to go out and enjoy themselves.
From the start it was very obvious that the passion and intensity that was missing last week had been found again by all the boys on the pitch.
With strong forward play from both teams and very similar patterns of play it was clear that this would be a tight game.
Effingham had the hill in the first half and managed to convert early territory into a score with a well worked forward drive under the posts.
Conversion good for a 7 point lead.
The intensity from the Chipstead players increased after the score and more and more pressure was put on Effingham's attack - the pressure resulted in Effingham kick a lot to try and gain territory that was run back time and time again - as the half wore on Chipstead were slowly gaining the upper hand but just couldn't get the score.
Half Time
0-7
With the hill in the second half the instructions were to keep the game tight - use the hill and let the power of the forwards sap the energy of the opposition defense.
This worked time and time again as more of the game was played in and around the Effingham 22
The pressure eventually paid off with a powerful straight run from Luke to score under the posts.- Matt Converted to make it 7-7
More and more pressure was put on the Effingham Line and it eventually paid off with another try by Luke in the corner -
12-7
10 minutes to go and Effingham threw everything at CHipstead to try and get back into the game but great defense and intelligent play ran the clock down
When the last play was called Effingham tried to play out of there own 22 but could breach the Chipstead defense and eventually the kicked to try and find the score - Eoin at full back covered as he had done all day and kicked the ball off the pitch for a narrow but well celebrated win.
Being honest the game could have gone either way - The result to the Chipstead coaches was not as important as the way in which all the lads played - it was a massive turn round from the previous week - well done to all of the lads.
Thanks to Nick for reffing the game
Thanks to Effingham for travelling (and good luck for the rest of the season)
A Special thanks to all the mums who did a great job providing the food .
