This was meant to be match day 2 in October but we had to rearrange twice to enable the fixture to be fulfilled This meant that a few of the lads were away to add to our extensive injury list.

We had 19 fit & available lads and they all played a part in a fantastic game of rugby.

The game plan as ever was to keep it simple - support-talk & most importantly have fun.

Esher started strongly with forward power and moved the ball up the pitch

Chipstead turned the ball over and quick hands from 9-10-12-13 and out to Tom on the wing all at pace and all going forward - space created and Tom was gone 5-0

Esher fought back - again keeping it tight drove up the pitch and scored under the posts

It was to prove the pattern of the game - Esher keeping it tight and as soon as Chipstead backs got their hands on the ball it was shifted and pace and prescision made the yards.

Isaac scored twice in the first half - both trys - great handling from the backline and speed and power

A great match fought between two evenly match teams - the difference today was the ruthlessness of the Chipstead Backs

Several of the Esher parents said to me afterwards that they had never seen such good back play in junior rugby

It wasn't just about the backs today - without the power of the forwards the backs cannot get the ball to play such Champagne Rugby
