A hastily arranged fixture against Edenbridge saw 18 players and 2 of our many walking wounded make the journey into Kent
Three more joined the growing list of injured this week - we will soon have more in the treatment room than on the pitch.
After our warm up - final instructions were Teamwork - and turning territory and possession into points and most importantly having fun.
It was agreed to play 3 x 15minute periods
Straight from the kick off Edenbridge spread the ball wide and their strike runner evaded a couple of tackles with good footwork and managed to get under the posts to score a converted try.
The boys didn't look worried and from the restart we realised from the sidelines that they weren't.
Strong running support and team work saw Jacko score in the corner (no conversion)
Great footwork from Hag DJ saw another score (Conversion -Rob)
A great set move off the back of a scrum in midfield saw Isaac score (Conversion - Rob)
And a final score by Isaac again (Conversion-Rob) left the score at the end of period 1
Edenbridge 7-26 Chipstead
Period 2 saw Edenbridge come out a lot stronger and a little bit of complacency set into the |Chipstead lads
Edenbridge managed to cross twice in this period (neither converted) both through great forward play by them.
End of Period 2
Edenbridge 17-26 Chipstead
Period 3 - The team talk between periods was a reminder that simple team play would always win out
Both teams performed well and good defensive play meant that towards the end of the period there had been no further score - A 5m penalty from Edenbridge was turned over - scrum to Chipstead almost under our own posts.
What followed was a wonderful display of strength - handling and pace.
A rock solid scrum gave great ball - quick hands and go forward ball through 9-10-12 13 and finally to Isaac cutting in from full back - the afterbrners were lit and Isaac was gone - try under the posts (no Conversion)
Final Score
Edenbridge 17-31 Chipstead
Thank you to Edenbridge for hosting and providing som egreat food at the end of the match.
Thanks to the ref
Thanks to the parents for travelling to Kent (Easy for me its my closest club)
A much better performance this week - we took most of our chances - and made fewer mistakes than the last couple of games - hopefully this will set us up nicely for the upcoming League games
