Chipstead 2's win first league game of the season.

The golden rule of Rugby weddings is that they happen 1st May-31st August - Simples - That is what the summer break is for !

The next best is to book an early Saturday service head to the club for a game of rugby and then have your reception in the clubhouse !
That was exactly what the Old Whitgiftian 8 did but whilst the weather also added to the bonus points of the day being at the back of a scrum constantly back-pedalling was probably not.

Chipstead ran out 69-22 in the Surrey Conference East league encounter against the OW's.

With two long term absentees Paul and Ollie returning after 5/6 seasons and new boy Rory you might of thought it would take time for them to get into the flow of things but all three slotted in perfectly and Chipstead hit the floor running - Ollie opening his account after only 5 minutes on the clock.
With the slope in their favour and the pack in dominant form Chipstead played the kind of rugby that had been completely missing from their game most of last season. The fact Paul (Gluteus Maximus), Steve (Ankle Ligaments) & Piers (Hangover) had to go off in the first half the subs Big Face, Liwi and Comrade Popp all slotted in seamlessly. Big Face should really of scored with his first touch of the ball but having ran 30 yards in the clear decided to stop 5 yards short and with the fall-back not really sure what to do decided to clothes-line Al and gave away a penalty try instead. Ollie completed his hat-trick with the final score of the half.
Half Time OW's 12 - Chipstead 34
OW's might of thought the slope would play in to their hands but Chipstead, buoyed from the half time chat, started the second in ruthless form and took the game straight to their opponents.
With half an hour to go DoR Dupe emptied the bench and brought himself on for the tiring Jon D but even he was not able to slow the game down - Debutant Rory completed his hat-trick and APG, at outside centre, was probably having his best game of rugby ever in a Blue & Gold shirt scoring one and narrowly missed out on a second but finished the game with what he now knows was a fractured wrist and will be sorely missed for the next 2 months. Steve Dave James Tarquin on the wing continues to develop as a rugby player and put in another solid performance.
The forwards finally managed to get on the score sheet with the last play of the game when the pack not only took a scrum on the 22 against the head they then drove through the retreating forwards of the OW's so much so that hooker Jon W was able to pick the ball up un-challenged and ran at and committed the full back and offloaded to the DoR on his shoulder who with 5 yards to go rather unselfishly passed on to his runner Spiv to dot down under the posts.
Tom H at scrum half kicked his 7th conversion to cap off his impressive game.
Full Time OW's 22 - Chipstead 69 Tries Ollie x4, Rory x3, Piers, APG, Spiv and a Penalty Try.

OW's headed off to the bar to lick their wounds and drown their sows whilst completing the wedding celebrations. I'm sure they will be a totally different side in the return fixture.

Chipstead 2's continue in the league next week when they host Cobham at #fortressmeads
