During warm-up the, rather large (too large) squad looked focused and up for the game but the frustration of having to lend players to the opposition meant the accuracy in the drills was not reflected in the opening 20 minutes.
The lack of ability of the OH's to not only source a referee but also a front row meant - Chey (ref) and Jon Wharton (opposition) a lack of focus from the whole of the remaining squad whilst slightly understandable but ultimately very frustrating. There are very few teams that will recover from 4 tries scored in the first twenty minutes but when it was from mistakes and loose tackles it leaves a flat feeling in the squad.
Once there was a level of believe and a realisation that they were not quite as strong as we let them look things did turn around but we can't keep letting games get to that position before deciding to play. The excellent refereeing meant the game was often played at a furious pace with open field position and excellent counter attacks and Chipstead capitalised on a few of the opportunities to score a few tries and even looked like they would be able to cut their way into the deficit but the OH backs were just as able to cut lines and take chances even got lucky with a random kick through that sat nicely for the centre to score.
Next week Chipstead host Old Caterhamians and will be desperately wanting to return to winning ways.
