Disappointed - Disappointing.

Looking at the 2nd XV team sheet there was an element of confidence going into the fixture finally a number of recognised backs were also present along with the ever-present strong dominant forward pack.

Unfortunately Old Ruts ability to turn up with only 6 forward players and a large representative of their Colts made the game a non-event before it even began. Uncontested scrums from the start when Chipstead were once again able to field two separate front row's completely nullified the core strength of Chips, and one would say the fundamental essence of Rugby Union, and, although forced into playing with 14, the pace and ability of the young backs meant that any mistakes were punished almost every time with a try.

What was disappointing was the effort and believe, that had been shown in abundance in the last few weeks (winning or losing), just didn't appear to be there. Whilst mistakes were punished ruthlessly the number of unforced errors is something that will need to taken back to the training area on Thursday.

The referee probably didn't help but from his view point there appeared to be a slight lack of leadership across the team leading to some panicked decisions and unnecessary risks - some of the older stalwarts need to consider that.

The positives - and there were many: Liam Wilson making his 2nd debut played very well (although narrowly avoided a yellow card), the tight interchanges and offloads around the ruck area made good yards - although a few times too often done in isolation, counter rucking and the fitness - Yes They did score a number of late tries to make the score look rather disappointing but that was because the play was being forced not generally because a lack of fitness.

No fixture next week due to the Rugby World Cup final but things need to be reviewed and worked on at training for the 7th Nov when away to Old Haileyburians.
