A nervous Flames team arrived at Old Reigatians on a beautiful early autumn evening for their first competitive matches.
Set to play 3 matches against seasoned opposition from Old Reigatians (two teams) and a combined Old Cats / Dorking team.
The first match again ORRFC got off to a flaying start with an early try from Sally crashing through the Reigatians line and helped to settle the nerves. Both sides played exciting rugby in a close fought contest and it gave the team a real boost going into the second match.
The second Old Reigatians team (a very experienced but young team) left the Flames shell-shocked with the pace of their play, running past us for a number of first half tries while we were left wondering what was going on. We regrouped at half time and came back out looking like a different team, levels of concentration and speed with the ball matching the best that Old Reigatians could throw at us.
The final match against a combined Dorking / Old Cats was very closely fought, the experience of the opposition vs the speed of the flames made a really enjoyable game for all concerned, highlights being a 50 yd sprint for the line by Kristen that was unlucky not to get a score and Catherine's determined play in midfield.
Legs were very tired and starting to go by the end but the universal grins on everyone's faces told the true story - it was a great evening of fun rugby.
The post match debrief in the luxurious surroundings of OR's sublime clubhouse was a welcome break and we can't wait for a rematch.
Well played Flames!
