Rugby Club Golf Society Day at Epsom Golf Club, 12th April

Rugby Club Golf Society Day at Epsom Golf Club, 12th April

John Holah17 Apr 2013 - 16:58

A great turnout for the Golf accompanied by glorious weather helped us to enjoy a good day out at Epsom.

The Old Blocks – "the older we get , the better we were".

A great turnout for the Golf accompanied by glorious weather helped us to enjoy a good day out at Epsom.

Following the usual hearty breakfast of Bacon rolls and Guinness everyone was well set for some serious Golf ( shame it didn't turn out that way!).

Andy Morris proceeded to land a ball from the tee between 4 people still putting on the first green, he did shout "Fore" but they weren't bothered as they had long since liberated his putter.

Ben Blackmore chipped his ball about 3 times into the "dogging" car park on the Downs, only to be confronted by two BT men apparently going about their business. Speaking of which wasn't that where Barney appeared from about halfway through the round?

Chey had some anger management issues, throwing his pitching wedge away at one point, then crushing a glass Incredible Hulk style over lunch. Most others were reasonably well behaved. One or two shower etiquette problems delayed things a little, but we sat for late Lunch at 4.30 and prizes were awarded.

Nearest the Pin: Wayne Bailey (they like a Par 3 at Chipstead GC )
Nearest the Pin in 2: Dave Akera (he just likes winning things!)
Longest Drive: Guy Huddleston – (glad he hit this one properly - not quite sure what happened to the other 115 shots)
Most Golf Played: Mike Dyson - ( part of Gallys grand plan to find players worse than him, but he's playing off 30 now )

The Old Blocks Trophy was scooped by Mike Smith with a superb 45 points , due to the magnanimous nature of all concerned hardly a mention was made of whether his handicap was correct and even less reference to his Mexican heritage. Having spent many years as a Game Ranger in Zimbabwe staring down rampaging Bull Elephants , our words had little effect in any case.. well done Mike, enjoy your new 19 handicap.
2nd place was shared with 38 points by myself , Shonker and Wayne Bailey , despite Greg’s best efforts to get his mate cut a shot , closer analysis of the cards showed that although we all had 21 points on the back 9 , yours truly had 13 points on the back 6 and therefore an gifted 2nd place , no prize and a 1 shot cut !.. happy days.

Epsom Winners : Wayne Bailey , Dave Akera , Mike Smith , Guy Huddleston with Mike Dyson ( having a kip) plus Greg White (horizontal)

A big thank you to all at Epsom for making us very welcome and a gift of 2 free rounds for the winner was a nice gesture , we were especially happy with the quality of the London Pride, even though it took us quite a few go’s before we all finally agreed it was a good pint.

Next event is the Chipstead Shut at Chipstead Golf Club on Friday 5th July, details to follow.
Thanks to one and all for a day full of laughter.
