What's this all about?
We are delighted to announce our Chipstead RFC members BEAT THE LIONS challenge, aiming to collectively log almost 10,000 miles on Strava to travel (virtually) from Chipstead to South Africa!
Our aim to is keep our club active, engaged and fit, even whilst we're in lockdown. This is a fun inclusive activity that not restricted to the players - we want mums, dads, grandparents even aunts and uncles to get involved!
The plan is to virtually travel from Chipstead RFC to the 3 Lions test stadiums in South Africa. First, we'll travel from Chipstead RFC to FNB stadium in Jo'burg. Then we'll head to the Cape Town stadium before heading up to the top of Table Mountain and finally finish off at the Emirates Airline Park back in Jo'burg.
This is just over 9730 miles!
You can walk, run or cycle. If you cover a distance, you can log it.
How do you log your miles?
To log your miles, you will need to download an exercise app on your phone called Strava. Strava is a free app that track activities via GPS, this is available via the App store and Google play.
Once you have downloaded Strava, just follow these steps to start logging your miles
1. Set your profile up on the Strava app
2. Go to >Explore and then >Clubs
3. Search for Chipstead Rugby Club and look for the club crest
4. Select >Join
5. Go for a walk, jog or cycle and record your journey on the Strava app.
If you are too young to have your own Strava account, we will soon give you a nice and simple form to record all of your journeys, so keep a record of how far you go for now and watch out for updates as we show you how far we have travelled every week as a club!
How will we track our progress?
Once we have got started, we'll start publishing leaderboards and tracking our progress. We are working on a live map which will show us how far we have got every week. To make sure it all remains fair, we'll implement some kind of handicap system so that all those naughty members who keep going our for long bike rides can't get too far ahead! Watch this space for more news on that.
We hope that as many of you and you families will join us as possible. In the meantime, stay safe, have fun and keep active. Remember we are a rugby family, so during these tough times, don't forget to check in on your friends and make sure they're ok.
